Make a spicy and sweet kumara/tomato juice

Description

The tomato and kumara combine to make a thick and creamy tasting juice. There is a nice sweet flavour with a a touch of pepper from the capsicum and spice from the chili. It's not too hot if you remove the seeds.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 kumara (sweet potato)

  • 1 red capsicum

  • 3 celery stalks

  • 3 tomato

  • 1 cayenne pepper or chilli (optional)

Juicing Time: 2 mins

Juice Qty: 900 ml

Preparation

Sweet Potato (30 sec)

  • Cut into thin slices

  • Juice with the skin on

Tomato (5 sec)

  • Remove the green stems

  • Juice whole

Red Capsicum (30 sec)

  • Remove the green stems

  • Cut into halves or quarters to fit in the wide chute

  • Remove excess seeds

Celery (30 sec)

  • Chop into small pieces (5cm) across the stalks to cut the long stringy fibre

  • You can juice the leaves if you like the bitter taste otherwise discard

Chilli (30 sec)

  • Cut of the stalk end

  • Cut in half length-ways and remove the seeds (the juicer will do it but it may add too much heat... up to you)

Method

  1. Keep the smart cap close and begin juicing the tomatoes. They are really juicy but take a few moments to move through the pulp chute.

  2. Next juice the red capsicums and optional chili if you are using. Let all the red ingredinets combine then release the smart cap.

  3. Now begin juicing celery one handful at a time.

  4. Finish the juice with the sweet potato slices. Go slow and let the juicer crash each slice individually before adding the next one.

Healthy Benefits

You would probably never eat raw sweet potato to get all of its many raw benefits which is why juicing is so amazing. They are high in vitamin A and a great source of beta carotene.

Sweet potato strengthens the spleen and pancreas helping them to remove toxins from the body. They look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics (sweet hey!)

Tomato juice contains a protection against prostate cancer called lycopene which is also in the red capsicums.

The cayenne pepper gives heat to the body, aids the circulation, and acts as a diuretic, helping excess
fluids to be cleared through the kidneys.
