Make GAP Juice

grapefruit on tree

Description

This juice is named GAP because it is a great ‘gap filler’ between lunch and dinner. It is smooth and creamy, so it is quite satisfying and decadent, but it has the lovely bite of the grapefruit to balance it out and give it a nice zing 😊

It would equally work as a breakfast juice, as it gives you a really nice dose of energy-giving juice to set you up for your day, or how we used it, which was to give us energy to power through the afternoon!

A really delicious and satisfying juice.

Ingredients

  • 1 grapefruit (yellow)

  • 2 pears (brown)

  • 4 apples (red)

  • 1 ginger piece (2cm)

ingredients on white background

Time: 3 mins
Juice Qty: 500ml

Preparation

Apples

  • Remove the stems and remove any stickers

  • Juice apples whole with skin and seeds

  • Cut in half or quarters if too big to fit into the wide chute

Pear

  • Remove the hard wooden stems

  • Juice whole or cut in half if too big to fit into the wide chute

Grapefruit

  • Remove the outer skin keeping as much white pith as possible

  • Cut into halves or quarters to fit into the wide chute

Ginger

  • Cut off a 2cm thick piece

  • Cut into thin slices leaving the skin on

Juicing Method

Start with the pears. Add them one at a time letting each one press through before adding the next.

Repeat the same with each apple.

Add the ginger slices.

Finish with the grapefruit halves or quarters letting the machine run for 30 seconds at the end to push all the grapefruit flesh through the juicer.

Tip: when a pear is hard and crunchy, that means its fibre content is higher, when a pear is soft and juicy, its glucose levels are higher, and it’s very easy to digest.

Health Benefits

Grapefruits are exceptional fruits that have very strong anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. They are a great source of vitamin C and bioflavonoids which help to boost the immune system and prevent aging, illness, and disease.

They are also an anti-cancer powerhouse and are particularly beneficial for prostate, breast, colon, and throat cancers. Even though grapefruit is thought to be an acidic fruit, it actually has the opposite reaction once inside the body and makes the body more alkaline which is vital for preventing most other diseases.

Pears are juicy and sweet, with a soft yet somewhat grainy texture. They are antispasmodic; they help soothe the lining of the stomach and intestinal tract. The digestible fibre in the juice feeds beneficial bacteria whilst starving out the unproductive bacteria, parasites and fungus.

The flesh is loaded with phytochemicals, trace minerals and amino acids that bind to toxins such as pesticides and expel them from your system.

Pears act as an appetite suppressant and stomach tonic to prevent you from craving sweets or overeating at meals.
