Make a Chlorophyll Shot
Get a shot of Chlorophyll with
this tasty alternative to Wheatgrass.
Description
Have you ever tried a Wheatgrass Juice Shot?
Wheatgrass is very high in chlorophyll and you can easily juice wheatgrass in a Kuvings cold press juicer but it is hard to find in health foods shops and doesn't exactly taste that great so I have created an alternative that is also high in chlorophyll, easy to find ingredients and of course, the taste is really good 😃!
Ingredients
1 coriander bunch (150g)
100g alfalfa
2 celery stalks
1 lime
1 ginger piece (5cm)
Juicing Time: 2 minutes
Juice Qty: 350ml
Preparation
Coriander / Cilantro
Roughly chop leaves and stems (you can include the roots if you like the coriander taste)
Juice handfuls at a time
Alfalfa
No preparation required
Juice in handfuls
Celery
Chop into small thumb size pieces across the stalks (this shortens the long stringy cellulose fibre and stops it from wrapping around the press)
You can juice celery leaves, however, it will add bitterness, so discard if you don’t like this
Lime
Thinly slice off the outer skin
Juice whole
Ginger
Cut off a 5cm thick piece
Cut into thin slices leaving the skin on
Method
Keep the cap closed on the juicer when making this recipe.
Start with the alfalfa sprouts, simply drop them into the wide chute.
Next, add the chopped coriander one handful at a time. You may need the pusher to get the leaves to drop down onto the press.
Next, add the chopped celery letting each handful press through the kuvings juicer before adding the next handful.
Add the ginger and finish by dropping the whole peeled lime into the chute.
When the pulp stops ejecting from the exit chute you can release the juice.
Tip: This recipe makes enough for 3 - 4 days. I recommend you drink 2x 50ml shots a day.
Health Benefits
Chlorophyll is found naturally in plants. It helps plants to absorb energy from sunlight and is what gives plants their green color.
What does chlorophyll do for us?
fights oxidative stress
powerful anti-inflammatory
supplies oxygen to tissues
helps the body detox
protects the liver
boosts energy levels
boosts the immune system
helps you lose weight
has anti-aging properties
Eating and juicing lots of dark green leafy vegetables is the best way to get lots of this powerful nutrient in its natural form into your diet.
As a side note, liquid chlorophyll supplements don’t contain chlorophyll, but a compound called chlorophyllin, a semi-synthetic mixture of sodium copper salts isolated from chlorophyll. This is why I prefer the real thing over supplements.
Foods with a high chlorophyll content that are suitable for juicing are alfalfa, asparagus, broccoli, brussels sprouts, celery, coriander, kale, parsley, spinach, and of course the highest is wheatgrass.
Interestingly the chlorophyll molecule bears a striking resemblance to hemoglobin, the red pigment in human blood. This makes it highly bioavailable to humans.
This juice was produced in the Kuvings EVO820 Cold Press Juicer.
