Spring Recipe – Spring Green
Description
Spring for me is about seeing the light green colour of the new growth that starts to show on the barren winter trees.
When I look at the colour of this juice it has the same new growth colour.
The flavour is fresh and tangy with a pleasant sweet, peppery spice from the ginger. A beautiful fragrant aroma is something you also notice as soon as you start to take a sip.
Ingredients
4 green apples
1/2 cucumber
3 celery stalks
1 piece ginger (2cm)
Juicing Time: 2 mins
Juice Qty: 900ml
Preparation
Apples
Remove the stems and remove any stickers
Juice apples whole with skin and seeds (Cut in half or quarters if too big to fit into the wide chute)
Celery
Chop into small thumb size pieces across the stalks (this shortens the long stringy cellulose fibre and stops it wrapping around the press)
You can juice celery leaves, however it will add bitterness, so discard if you don’t like this
Cucumber
Cut into chunks to fit down the chute, leaving the skin on
Ginger
Cut off a 2cm thick piece
Cut into thin slices leaving the skin on
Method
A super quick and easy juice to make using your Kuvings Cold press juicer.
I like to start with the smart cap on the kuvings juicer closed because I want to mix the apple and ginger flavours together first, before adding the celery and cucumber.
Put the apples in first. Just throw them in whole and let the juicer press them through the kuvings cold press juicer.
Next add the ginger and let the flavours blend together, before opening the smart cap and releasing the juice.
Next add the celery pieces one handful at a time. Take care to make sure celery and its stringy fibres do not clog the machine.
Finally, finish with the cucumber chunks. Enjoy!
Health Benefits
Apples have a long list of phyto-nutrients and provide living water (juice) to all 10,000 trillion cells. They are a highly alkaline fruit that have the ability to hydrate at the cellular-level
Celery is also very alkalising in the body, which is extremely important after a good workout to help flush lactic acid from the body.
Cucumber juice is again highly alkalinising and hydrating drink that is rich in nutrients such as vitamins A, C, K, magnesium, silicon, and potassium. It has the ability to cleanse and detox the entire body as well as help to alleviate digestive problems such as gastritis, acidity, heartburn, indigestion, and ulcers.
Gingerols in ginger cause a rapid and noticeable widening of the blood vessel walls and in turn helps to enhance circulation and also lower blood pressure.
