Make a Seasonal Recovery Juice
Description
This juice recipe is amazing after a big night of eating and drinking too much, which I know many people do during the holidays!
The flavour of this recipe is very neutral. There is plenty of ginger in the recipe but not overpowering. It is easy to drink which is perfect when you are not feeling great and depending on the size of your watermelon it makes lots of juice!
Ingredients
1 beetroot
1 cucumber
1/4 watermelon
3 tbsp ginger, chopped
Time: 10 mins
Juice Qty: 2000ml
Serves: 4
Preparation
Beetroot
Cut in half and then into quarters
Slice each half into thin slices to make it easier to press.
Juice with skin on (you can also juice the leaves and stems if you have them)
Cucumber
Cut into chunks to fit down the chute
Juice with skin on
Watermelon
Thinly slice the outer green skin leaving most of the white flesh intact
Cut the melon into slices about two fingers wide
Cut the slices in long strips about three fingers wide or chop into chunks
Ginger
Cut off a 2cm thick piece
Cut into thin slices leaving the skin on
Larger Jug
This recipe makes about 2 litres so you will need a larger juice container to pour the juice into as you go.
Method
Start making this juice with the cucumber chunks. They juice up really easy so just drop them in 2 at a time.
Add the watermelon pieces next. Again, super easy to juice but there are a few pieces here so take your time and let the juicer do its thing. Keep an eye on the juicing jug it will fill up quickly with juice and you will need to pour it into a larger juice jug or container.
Add the chopped ginger, about 1 tbsp worth at a time.
Finish with the beetroot slices. I add 1/4 of a whole beetroot at a time and let the juicer press it through then repeat.
Pour the remaining juice into the larger jug and stir through.
Health Benefits
Bet you didn't know it, but beetroot is a Hangover cure.
Beetroot contains betacyanin, the pigment that gives beetroot its color, which speeds up detoxification in your liver and enables your body to turn the alcohol into a less harmful substance that can be excreted quicker than normal.
Beetroot also contains betaine, a substance that relaxes the mind (aka headache). It also contains tryptophan, which is also found in chocolate and contributes to a sense of feeling better.
Cucumber is all about rehydrating from the dehydrating effects of alcohol. Cucumber juice cools the fire that is generated in the liver and drains the heat from the toxic head you sometimes get the next day (or two).
Watermelon is simply the best fruit to effectively hydrate, detoxify, and cleanse the entire body on a cellular level. It is also one of the top foods to hydrate your melon (your head) from the effects of a big night.
Ginger is one of the world’s oldest and most popular medicinal spices known to greatly aid digestion. It is a research-backed anti-sickness remedy where several studies have shown that it reduces nausea and settles upset stomachs.
Any good recovery drink must contain some ginger!
